Below are a few selected scriptures from the NIV Bible that put forth the uniqueness, importance, and power of the inspired Word of God that is in the Bible. Yes, the Bible is unique in that it contains the very words of God. It proclaims that Jesus came from heaven as the Son of God and spoke the very words of God to us. That is why one of Jesus’ names is “the Word” with the W of Word capitalized proclaiming that He is God. Jesus also said that “[T]he Father who sent me commanded me to say all that I have spoken. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say.” in John 12:49-50 and we have four accounts of it. John 6:68 declares about Jesus that “You have the words of eternal life.” Jesus also called the Scriptures “the word of God” in Matthew 15:6, Mark 7:13, and John 10:35.

Therefore, all of the Scriptures contain the Word of God. Romans 3:2 states that the scriptures of the Old Testament are “the very words of God.” 1 Thessalonians 2:13 states that Paul spoke “the word of God.” Paul then took this word of God and put it into what would become almost half of the books of the New Testament. The fact that the Bible contains the Word of God because the writers of it were inspired by God can actually be proven to be true. For this, see “It can Be Proven that the Bible Contains the Inspired Word of God” in this section of WORSHIPPING WITH GOD’S WORD.

Hebrews 4:12 states that “the word of God is alive and active” and can even penetrate into a person’s soul and spirit. Yes, when the Word of God gets into a person, it can positively change their life in many wonderful ways when they apply it to it. This is brought out in the next part of this section of WORSHIPPING WITH GOD’S WORD in “The Beneficial Impact the Scriptures Can Have in Your People’s Lives.”
