This section shows the power the Scriptures have to make positive changes in people’s lives. It exemplifies what God’s Word from the Bible can do in people’s lives and all of the wonderful results it can produce in a person, and therefore, why you should include them in your worship services. Some of the scriptures from the NIV Bible that are listed below are incomplete and will have this indicated by an asterisk after their references.

13 “If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you.” Exodus 33:13a*

[M]an does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD. Deuteronomy 8:3*

The LORD will establish you as his holy people, as he promised you on oath, if you keep the commands of the LORD your God and walk in obedience to him. 11 The LORD will grant you abundant prosperity . . . . 13 The LORD will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the LORD your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom. Deuteronomy 28: 9, 11, 13*

“Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” Joshua 1:8

“[Y]ou will have success if you are careful to observe the decrees and laws that the LORD gave Moses . . . .” 1 Chronicles 22:13a*

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers. Psalm 1:1-3

The law of the LORD is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes. The decrees of the LORD are firm, and all of them are righteous. 10 They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb. 11 By them your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward. Psalm 19:7-8, 9b-11*

12 Blessed is the one you discipline, LORD, the one you teach from your law; 13 you grant them relief from days of trouble . . . . Psalm 94:12-13*

Blessed are those whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the LORD. Blessed are those who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart— Psalm 119:1-2

11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Psalm 119:11

45 I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts. Psalm 119:45

66 Teach me knowledge and good judgment, for I trust your commands. Psalm 119:66

77 Let your compassion come to me that I may live, for your law is my delight. Psalm 119:77

130 The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. Psalm 119:130

165 Great peace have those who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble. Psalm 119:165

1 My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity. Proverbs 3:1-2

20 My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. 21 Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; 22 for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body. Proverbs 4:20-22

19 So that your trust may be in the LORD, I teach you today, even you. Proverbs 22:19

By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures. Proverbs 24:3-4

10 “As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, 11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”  Isaiah 55:10-11

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ” Matthew 4:4

24 “[E]veryone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.” Matthew 7:24-25* (and Luke 6:47-48)

20 “Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown.” Mark 4:20 (and Matthew 13:23 and Luke 8:15)

24 Jesus replied, “Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God?” Mark 12:24

28 He [Jesus] replied, “Blessed . . . are those who hear the word of God and obey it.” Luke 11:28*

63 “The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life.” John 6:63b*

31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32

49 “I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me to say all that I have spoken. 50 I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say.” John 12:49-50

15 “If you love me, keep my commands. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.” John 14:15–17

21Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.” John 14:21

23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.” John 14:23

“You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.” John 15:3

“If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.” John 15:7-8

17 “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.” John 17:17

37 When the people heard this [the Word of God], they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” 38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:37-38*

32 “Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.” Acts 20:32

16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. Romans 1:16

17 [T]hanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance. 18 You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness. Romans 6:17-18*

17 [F]aith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. Romans 10:17*

25 Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. Ephesians 5:25-27

[T]he gospel is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole world—just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood God’s grace. Col. 1:6b*

13 And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe. 1 Thessalonians 2:13

15 [T]he Holy Scriptures, . . . are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy 3:15*

21 [H]umbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.  James 1:21*

25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do. James 1:25

22 Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart. 1 Peter 1:22*

23 [Y]ou have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. 1 Peter 1:23*

Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, 1 Peter 2:2

[H]e [Jesus] has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. 2 Peter 1:4*
